Trusted Surveyors in Durack
Surveyors in Durack work across two halves of one suburb, and those halves behave very differently. West of Blunder Road it is almost all housing, laid out from the mid 1970s when the area was separated from Inala and named after the Durack family’s old Archerfield pastoral run. East of Blunder Road it opens into wetlands, creek flats and reserve, with Oxley Creek along the boundary. Durack sits about 15km south west of the CBD, with Inala to the west and Darra to the north.
That split drives the job list. Our Durack surveying team spends most of its time on residential work: boundary identification, contour and detail surveys ahead of an extension or a second dwelling, and setout for small subdivisions. Move east and the questions change to ground levels, drainage and how far a waterway corridor genuinely reaches. Same suburb, two different sets of constraints, and which one applies usually comes down to the street you are standing in.
New Projects Transforming Durack
The most striking change here turned a sewage plant into parkland. The Archerfield Wetlands District Park on Bowhill Road opened in September 2024 on the site of the decommissioned Inala wastewater treatment plant, a $22 million project delivered under Brisbane City Council’s $100 million Oxley Creek Transformation. The four hectare park sits inside a wider 150 hectare parkland wedged between the Ipswich Motorway, Archerfield Airport and Bowhill Road, and the Archerfield Wetlands Discovery Trail already runs through it.
Work like that is survey heavy from start to finish. Filled and contaminated ground has to be picked up accurately before anything gets designed. Boardwalks, trails and play structures need setout on land that has been reshaped more than once. Then levels get re-checked after earthworks, because a finished surface rarely matches the plan exactly. So a Durack land surveyor here works on parkland and drainage about as often as on house blocks.
Surveying Factors Unique to Durack
Boundaries on 1970s housing lots. The residential streets west of Blunder Road were laid out from 1976, and the original blocks are generous by current standards. That makes them attractive for a duplex, a secondary dwelling or a two lot split. Durack surveyors re-establish the corners with a boundary survey first, since fences from that era are rarely on the line, while Brisbane City Plan online gives you the zone, minimum lot size and overlays that decide whether the split is possible at all.
Made ground on the eastern side. The land toward Oxley Creek has been reshaped repeatedly. Wastewater treatment, waste disposal, industrial use and grazing each left filled ground, altered watercourses and a contamination legacy behind them. Assumed levels are worth very little out there, so a contour and detail survey is the sensible first step before anyone designs a slab or a drainage line.
Height limits beside Archerfield Airport. Durack shares a boundary with the airport, so parts of the suburb sit under airport environs and obstacle limitation mapping. That can cap roof height and affect crane use during construction. It is a quick check, but a surveyor in Durack should run it against measured ground level before design rather than after.
We also service neighbouring Willawong and Oxley along the Oxley Creek corridor.
